SEPTEMBER 9 READING…COLOSSIANS 3
You have all heard the axiom…”So heavenly minded that you are no earthly good”. This statement is not a biblical statement. The Bible teaches just the opposite. The only way we can be of a good here on this earth is to be heavenly minded. The Apostle Paul tells us to set our minds on things above, and not on the things on the earth. The earth, left to its own, will always destroy itself. All we have to do is look at every “great” society in human history, and what we will see is that when they turned from any recognition of God and sought themselves, that is was not long until they fell. Christ is our life as believers…so we are called to live in Him. The world cannot tell us how to live…for it does not know how to give life, only death. So, we are called to put to death things in our lives that are contrary to God. Things like…fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness. These are the things that bring the wrath of God. This should be a huge warning to us today…the wrath of God will fall on a people who reject Him and goes the way of this sin-fallen world. We have been made new in Christ Jesus…so we ought to live and walk like the new creations we are. We are to love, walk in peace, and let the Word of God dwell within us. When asked how we are to live our lives the answer is both simple and profound. “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” If we followers of Christ would do this, we would fulfill who the Lord has called us to be.
