SEPTEMBER 6 READING…JOB 30 & PSALM 17 & ROMANS 1
Discouragement, depression, and even despondency is part of our existence on this earth. While it would never be good for a person to live in these all the time, the reality is that we are all capable of being thrown into these conditions. Life happens, and it is not always kind, good, or uplifting. Job found himself at the bottom. It has been said that when we are at the bottom the only place we can look is up. The Psalmist in our readings reminds us that in the Lord we have One we can run to, and hide “under the shelter of His wings” when life gets too hard. He loves us and is there to protect us when life crashes down on us. The saddest thing I can think of is someone who has no relationship with the Lord, so they have no one to turn to when things happen. We as believers can be there for them, certainly in a better way than the friends of Job. We may be the only representative of Christ they will ever know. The Holy Spirit can, and will, work through us in the lives of others as we remain available to Him. In Romans 1, Paul speaks of how people have rejected God, who has offered salvation to all people, regardless of their background. But, rather than coming to the God who has revealed Himself clearly to them, mankind chooses to worship the things created rather than the Creator. Their reprobate minds move them to do things against God’s creative order, even that which is an abomination in homosexual sex. Mankind continues to dig themselves a deeper hole of deprivation, rather than looking up to the only One who can rescue them…the Lord Jesus Christ.
