SEPTEMBER 5 READING…JOB 28-29 & PSALM 111 & COLOSSIANS 4
We are totally dependent on the Lord for all things. Mankind can, with their own effort, gain much knowledge…but true wisdom only comes as a gift from God. When we seek God, we find wisdom. It is folly to seek wisdom apart from seeking the Lord. Job could comprehend the fact of the existence of the troubles he was going through…but he needed the wisdom of the Lord to have the wisdom to deal with them. Clearly, his “friends” had many “facts” concerning Job’s situation, and the cause of his misery…but they lacked wisdom to speak into Job’s pain. In Psalms, we are reminded to look to the Lord in all things. To remember who He is, and that He is good…and the giver of every good thing. The Lord is always just, and His precepts are both eternal and good. It is at the place of the fear (honor & respect) of the Lord that wisdom is found. Paul tells us in Colossians that the wisdom that God gives us is what we are instructed to walk in with our personal relationships, our work relationships, and in the world the Lord has put us in. Without this wisdom, we will spend our lives stumbling over the knowledge we have acquired. Here is a simple definition of wisdom…the biblical application of knowledge.
