SEPTEMBER 3, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

SEPTEMBER 3 READING…PHILIPPIANS 3

We are called to rejoice in the Lord. Notice this call is not to rejoice in things, and not even primarily in the things the Lord provides, but to rejoice in the Lord. We are to rejoice in the fact that the Lord is…and we are to rejoice that we are blessed to be in Him. At the same time we are warned not to put confidence in the flesh…for we cannot stand in the flesh we the dogs and workers of evil come against us. Paul reminds us that the flesh has a tendency to look very religious. In other words, people assume if they do the “religious” thing and works, that is what is required, and that is what pleases God. The Lord is not religion…the Lord is about life and relationship. Like Paul, to us all other things, including religion should be considered rubbish. As we walk in this life, we have not attained personal perfection…but we do not let this discourage us, but we lay hold of Christ and press on. We are called to leave the past in the past…and continue on in the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Paul warns us against living for the flesh. Though we are created flesh…we were not created for the flesh…we were created for God.
