SEPTEMBER 25 READING…1 TIMOTHY 3
In a world that has lost all standards of truth and behavior the Bible remains unchanged. Even churches today have rejected the standards set in God’s Word in order to draw people, be less “offensive”, and do things according to what they “feel” they want to do. Paul tells Timothy that God has standards for leadership in the church. These standards remain today, they are biblical, and they are not suggestions, but the commands of God. No one…no church…no denomination, has the authority to reject, change, or pervert the standards God has set for His church. Paul gives the qualifications for the Pastor/Bishop/Elder/Overseer. Male, husband of one wife, temperant, proper behavior, not given to much wine, and leads his household biblically. The qualifications of the deacon are much the same as for the pastor. Paul then reminds us of the foundation of our faith that cannot be compromised…God came in the flesh, the angels witnessed this, He was preached to the world, He was believed on by many in the world, and He ascended to heaven.
