SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

SEPTEMBER 18 READING…HOSEA 12-14 & ROMANS 13

Why do preachers preach? I guess that question has many answers, depending on the individual’s motivations. But, let’s narrow it down, why do biblical preachers preach? The first response is because they have to…God has put it in their soul to declare His truth…they can do no other. The second reason is because they have a God given concern for the spiritual condition of individuals, communities, and even nations. I am here in our nation’s capitol, and I am concerned about our nation. We, like Israel and Judah, to whom Hosea preached, are a corrupt people…being led, mostly, by corrupt politicians. There is little to know consideration or fear of God. We, a nation, found by biblical principles…it is clearly written all over our capitol buildings and our founding documents…have become godless, and evil. Hosea warned Israel and Judah of the impending judgment of God upon them for their godliness…and every preacher must speak up and warn our nation of the same. In Romans 13, we are told to obey the government that sets over us, for God has established it for His purpose. People mistake our government for the people sitting in the seats of Congress, the SCOTUS, and the Executive Branch. But, our government is found in the people, not the politicians. If you want to know what our government is, established by God, read the Constitution. No group of people have a right to require of the people of the United States that which the Constitution does not. When they do, they have overstepped their constitutional authority, and cease to have the right to govern. We as believers uniquely live in two worlds, but this temporal world is not our home. Don’t get too attached, you won’t be here long. But, while we are here, we are to live for Christ, we are to preach Christ, and we are to call our acquaintances, our communities, our nation, and the world to Christ.

Please share your thoughts.
