SEPTEMBER 15 READING…HOSEA 3-6 & ROMANS 10
It is never easy to be the bearer of bad news, especially when all people want to hear is good news. I would love to be able to give puffy, flowery sermons…but this is not the time for feel good messages, as it was not in the time of Hosea. If we are not careful we will be leading people to feel good about themselves and their sin to hell. Israel and Judah had convinced themselves they were “good” with God, while at the same time they were worshipping other gods. God had called Hosea to bring a message to the people…a straightforward message of judgment if they did not repent, and return to God. The message in Romans 10 is very similar, it is the expression of the heart of the Apostle Paul that Israel might be saved…even to his own loss of salvation. The genuine Gospel is negative to those who want to live in their sin. But, as Paul’s said we need to share it, for the world must know that Jesus is the only way to salvation, and that everyone must repent of their sin and believe in Him alone to be saved. Our world is a mess…and if we are honest we would have to admit that the church, overall, is a mess. Too much ungodliness and sin is accepted, and considered the norm. No wonder both the world and the church are dying. Sadly, people always have the option to leave a church that is preaching biblical truth, and run to the saccharin saturated religious gatherings that tell them they can live anyway they like and be right with God. I am with Paul…I am always going to call sinners to repentance, and continue preaching Jesus Christ crucified, Resurrected, and coming again…and we better be ready. Even if some call it negative, or old fashioned.
Please share your thoughts.
