SEPTEMBER 12 READING…JOB 39-40 & ROMANS 7
Who are we as humans that God would consider us? And why would God be bothered with our simple, and sometimes inane questions? It is clear that we are privileged in the Scripture to be able to ask Him legitimate questions…we can ask why. Now, He is not obligated to answer us. At times He will answer…and other times He chooses not to answer…BUT, He always calls us to trust Him. We must understand that there is a difference between asking God the honest question of “why”, and outright challenging God. Job had crossed the line to challenge God concerning what he was going through. God questions Job concerning what he really knows about anything. Job gets the message…and then falls back as if he was crushed by God’s response. God doesn’t let Job claim “victim status” and crawl away…God tells Job to stand up like a man, here the questions the Lord has for him…and Job will answer the Lord. Don’t challenge God if you really don’t want the answer…but if we choose to challenge God, He will answer, and we will have to listen. I have experienced this in counseling sessions. When dealing with an issue a person said to me, “I don’t like your answer”…my response was, “Did you come here for biblical counsel, or did you come here for me to say what you want me to say?” None of us, particularly in difficult situations, have all the answers we need to make it through. We need to ask, and the Lord will give us His sufficient answer…but, we must be careful not to challenge God, for in that moment, He will put us in our proper place…every time! In Romans 7, we are reminded that there is no effort of mankind that makes us right before God. Our attempt to do right, cannot make us right with God. Only God can make us right with God…and when He does we will be able to accomplish His great work in and through our lives.
