OCTOBER 9 READING…TITUS 3
Paul instructs Titus to remind the church to properly respond to rulers and authorities…to obey those who are in positions of leadership (there is a biblical qualifier here…we are always to obey God before we obey any man). We believers are to always be ready for good works. This means we are to be intentional in preparing ourselves to be ready to be used of God as He will work through us in the lives of others. We need to watch our speech about others, in that we need to be cautious to speak evil of others…we can speak truth, but we are not to have an evil intent. We are called to be peaceable without compromising our faith…and walk in humility before all people. We need to remember how we were before we came to faith in Jesus. We must remember the change the Holy Spirit brought into our lives because of our salvation in Christ. God in His love, grace, and mercy brought us to faith through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, who brought us salvation through Jesus Christ. Because of this change in us by the Holy Spirit we are to maintain good works…that is to continue walking in the Lord as He will continue to use us to show Himself to the world. Be careful to abstain from foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and arguments about the law…these are unprofitable and useless. Personally, I needed to re-read this passage and ask the Lord to teach me to apply these truths in my walk. Our faith again is to not only be heard in the words we speak…but it is to be seen in the life we live.
