OCTOBER 6 READING…JEREMIAH 25-26 & PSALM 75 & HEBREWS 6
The Lord tells Jeremiah that Judah would be taken into captivity by Baybylon for 70 years. The Lord told them to continue to live, and that even in captivity they would be blessed. The sad thing is they didn’t have to go through all of this, but they continually lived in rebellion to the Lord. Of course the political leadership blamed Jeremiah, instead of looking at their own responsibility. They tried to kill Jeremiah, but the Lord spared him. The Psalmist praises God for His righteous judgment. No one likes to be at the receiving end of God’s righteous judgment, but we need it. Without it the world would spin out of control. Anarchy would abound, and mankind would destroy itself in short order. Like the Psalmist we need to be grateful that we have a righteous God, who deals justly with our unrighteousness. Hebrews encourages us to continue to grow in the Lord…in this growth we move into the deeper things of God. God wants us to walk in the fullness of who He created us to be. As we do, we are less likely to stray from Him into unrighteousness.
