OCTOBER 5 READING…JEREMIAH 23-24 & PSALM 110 & HEBREWS 5
The Lord gives a dire warning to pastors who destroy and scatter His sheep. Jeremiah reminds us that the people belong to the Lord, not to the Pastor. The Pastor is to faithfully tend the Lord’s sheep. Those who feed them false teachings are scattering and destroying them. Those who change the Lord’s clear truth in order to pacify people’s desire to live in sin are scattering and destroying them. Those that neglect to give the Lord’s people the Word, unapologetically, are scattering and destroying them. The Lord says He stands against such pastors. He also warns that the day will come when He will return and put all things in order. The Psalmist speaks of that day, when the Lord shall return and make His enemies His footstool. He will execute perfect justice, and each one will be made known whether they are of the Lord, or of the devil. Hebrews tells us that He can do this because the Lord is our great High Priest, not in the line of men, following the line of Aaron, but from the eternal line of God Himself. We are called to trust in our Great High Priest only, and not trust in the strength, wisdom, or religiosity of mankind.
