OCTOBER 3 READING…JEREMIAH 17-18 & PSALM 35 & HEBREWS 3
When sin becomes so engrained that it is described as being engraved on our hearts we are in dire trouble. The people of Judah had been trusting in everything else except the Lord for what they chose to do. Therefore, everything they chose to do was contrary to the Lord. They trusted in their own strength, but only found they were weak, and brought curses upon themselves. They trusted in their heart (feelings), not acknowledging that the heart is deceitful above all things, it is desperately wicked. They were so far away from God that they had forgot Him. They had forgotten that He was the potter, and they were the clay. They had forgotten that His counsel was good, life sustaining, and was meant for their blessing. So they rejected Him, trusted in themselves…and brought ruin upon their own heads. The Psalmist reminds us that God looks out for His people…and that His people are those who hear and heed His voice. Hebrews declares the truth that none of us are faithful in all things, but in Christ Jesus we have the faithful One. We are called to hear His voice and submit to Him, and His faithfulness will become ours. He is our faithfulness…He is our everything. We are not to trust in self, or any other thing…only Jesus, our great high King.
Please share your thoughts.
