OCTOBER 29 READING…HEBREWS 13
After setting all things in proper order, the writer of Hebrews draws us to the conclusion of biblical love. All that came before Jesus was to bring us to Jesus. Now that we have Jesus, we are never to go back to that which was before. That would actually be making the gifts of God to bring us to himself into idols…it is idolatry to trust the shadows of that which is to come rather than to trust in the Lord who has come. The writer calls us to biblical love in the social realm. I remind you that love is not an emotion, though love certainly touches our emotions…that is how we were created. Love is a commitment that always results in actions that are intended to bless others…it is not a feeling, for our feelings change all the time. We are to love by being hospitable to strangers, for who knows they may be angels sent by God. We are to love by ministering to those in prison. Biblical marriage is an expression of the love of God. And we are to love without covetousness, being grateful for the blessings that God has chosen to give us. In the church we are to love those who speak the Word of God faithfully to us. Our love of God is seen in being committed to sound doctrine…and keep our focus on Jesus who has sanctified us by the shedding of His blood. Since Jesus has completed the only sacrifice needed for mankind to be made right with God…all that is required for us to do is offer a sacrifice of praise to our God and Savior. Finally, we demonstrate our love by praying earnestly for one another…we all need to be praying, and we all need prayers.
Please share your thoughts.
