OCTOBER 27 READING…EZEKIEL 1-3 & GALATIANS 1
Today we begin our reading of Ezekiel. Ezekiel was taken captive by Babylon in the second siege of Judah. Ezekiel is the third prophet of God during the captivity of Israel. Jeremiah was God’s prophet who stayed in Judah, and went to Egypt. Daniel was God’s prophet in the palace of Nebuchadnezzar. Now Ezekiel is God’s prophet who would be with the captives near the river Chabar. Ezekiel had a difficult task, as he told the captives they would not return to Judah, while at the same time there were false prophets telling them they would. Like people today, they didn’t want to hear the truth, they wanted to hear what they wanted, and what made them feel good…they had itchy ears. Of course the captives scorned Ezekiel, as they rebelled against God. But Ezekiel understood that the Lord had made him a watchman for the people. His job was to warn them, what they did then, was upon them. In Galatians Paul is also a watchman, warning us not to listen or believe the false gospels being propagated by false teachers and preachers. The Gospel is so important, because it concerns people’s eternal souls. It was so important that Paul said that anyone who would preach a false gospel was anathema, “damned”. The message of the church to the world is the genuine Gospel of Jesus…there are not many gospels, there is only one…and only that one brings salvation.
