OCTOBER 26 READING…DANIEL 11-12 & JAMES 5
In our reading today we move to the end of the Medo Persian empire, through the Greek empire, and into the Roman. We are introduced to a wicked king, his name is Antiochus Epiphanies. He is the type of Antichrist, Jesus referenced him in the book of Matthew as he referred to the Antichrist who would come at the end of time. Chapter 12 jumps to the end of time, and then Daniel is told to close up the book until the time of the end. In Revelation, John is given a book and told to open it…it is the same book Daniel was told to close. John in Revelation continues with what the Lord gave originally to Daniel…now we have the details of how all things will come to an end. Daniel closes with a personal promise of his being part of the resurrection when Christ returns…and we believers all have that same promise. James closes with a set of instructions, teachings, and even warnings. James warns the rich not to oppress the poor. He is not condemning the rich, but he is condemning the rich who oppress others. He encourages us to be patient, and to persevere…always anticipating the coming of the Lord Jesus. He instructs us to take care of each other…to pray for the sick, to lift up those who are weak, and to be honest and open with one another. Finally, he calls us to be in the ministry of reconciliation…to bring back, in humility, the ones who err.
