OCTOBER 25 READING…DANIEL 9-10 & JAMES 4
Chapter 9 of Daniel is a crucial chapter, as it gives us an understanding of the book and the place and times of the ultimate fulfillment of the visions and dreams given. The Bible is filled with great prayers, and certainly the greatest one would be Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Daniel 9 also contains one of the great prayers of a person of faith living in a land filled and ruled by people who do not know God, and who actually hate God. Sometimes we lament the spiritual condition of the time we live, and we should, for we live in a very ungodly time, and its only getting worse. But, we must pray more than we lament. For the condition of the world in our time is no surprise to God…nor has God abandoned us. God has a plan, and the only way we can be prepared for that which is coming is through spending time with God in intimate prayer. Daniel is this chapter is given God’s timeline for the end of time, he is given the promise of Messiah, the influence and identity of Antichrist, and God’s plan for how long He will work through the nation of Israel. The future is sure, for God is the author of history, and the author of the future. If there ever was a time when we need to walk in humility before God, now is that time. James tells us that faith produces genuine humility in our lives. As we humble ourselves before God, He will lift us up in His time and for His purpose. Faith that produces humility reminds us of our dependence upon God. We don’t need God for some things…we need God for everything. Let us decide now to walk in faith in the time the Lord has put us here…living dependent upon God for everything!
