OCTOBER 22 READING…HEBREWS 8
The writer of Hebrews starts in this chapter by saying…” We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.” This being true, who else or what else, do we need? The old covenant was good, but incomplete…the new covenant in Christ is perfect. The old set the pattern…the new fulfills the pattern. The old contain shadows of revelation of God…the new brings perfect clarity of God’s revelation. The old was given for a purpose…the new is the purpose. Since the old could not do for mankind what we needed, God did it through establishing the new covenant through the sacrifice of Jesus. You will remember when Jesus took the cup in establishing the Lord’s Supper with His disciples, He said, “This cup is the New Covenant in my blood”. The old covenant worked from the outside, with God’s law being written on tablets and scrolls…the new covenant is written on the hearts of those who trust in Jesus as Savior. The new covenant in the blood of Jesus washes away our sins…so much so, that God who knows all things says…” I will remember them no more”. Only God perfectly remembers…and only God can perfectly forget. Praise the Lord!
