OCTOBER 16, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

OCTOBER 16 READING…HEBREWS 4

Only genuine believers in Jesus Christ can enter into the “rest” that is found in God. This is true because Jesus is our “rest”. The creation account tells us that God entered into rest on the seventh day after He created all that exist. God did not enter into rest because He was tired, but as an example to us. Here is what He was showing us…that when everything is done, there is nothing else that can be done…therefore we enter into rest. Jesus on the cross said, “It is finished”. Because it is finished, nothing else can be done. When it comes to salvation, Jesus has accomplished everything that can possibly be done. So, when we come in faith to Jesus, we don’t do so in order to accomplish our salvation…Jesus already did it all. In coming to Jesus and trusting in Him we enter into rest…for all the work has been done by Jesus. Therefore, Jesus is our rest. Creation is a picture of what we have in Christ…the “rest” of God. Because Jesus is our great High Priest, who is also the sacrifice, who entered into heaven…we can hold fast to the promise of God that we have in Christ. Jesus understands us and sympathizes with us, for He has faced every temptation that we face…yet without sin. Because we are in Him, we are now allowed to come right to the throne of God and receive His mercy and grace to help us in our time of need. One may ask, “When is our time of need?” The answer is always!
