OCTOBER 15 READING…JEREMIAH 48-49 & PSALM 123
Jeremiah spoke prophesies against Ammon, Moab, and Edom in today’s readings. These are distant relatives to Israel and Judah. They had gone into idolatry long before the fall of Judah. They had also turned their backs on Judah in their time of trouble. Today these lands would be Jordan and the northern part of Saudi Arabia. God is the Creator of all mankind, and all mankind is accountable to Him. So, because of their unbelief and their cruelty to Judah, God would judge these nations. There is a time coming when God will judge every nation. All mankind stands accountable to God. God has revealed both Himself, and His truth to humanity…most have, and will, reject God. Each one who does will have to stand on their own before God one day in judgment…and they won’t be able to stand. God still uses and judges nations today, though most don’t see it that way…it does not change the fact that He does. The Psalmist calls out for God’s mercy in the midst of His judgment. It is the way of mankind to ignore God until trouble comes…then they want God to fix things, so that they might ignore Him again. God is patient and kind, but one day He will restrain His judgment no longer. His judgment will come, and there will be no reprieve.
