OCTOBER 10, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

OCTOBER 10 READING…PHILEMON 1

Does Christian brotherly love really work…even in very difficult circumstances? What about the issue of slavery, and both the owner and the slave are followers of Jesus Christ? We know the Bible teaches that in Jesus there is no “slave or free”…for God is not a respecter of persons. In this life there is injustice…and there are different standings and status. As believers we should stand against all injustice, but many things in this sin fallen world either take time to change, or will not be changed. Paul addresses these issues in his letter to Philemon. The point being that sometimes we find ourselves in difficult and unfair circumstances even in our relationships as Christians…these should not change our love for each other, or how we treat one another. It should be said as you read this book that the Scripture does not promote or condone slavery(one person owning another)…but it does acknowledge the reality of it in this imperfect world. Paul requested that his fellow believer, Philemon, receive back his run away slave, Onesimus, who was now a believer, as a brother in Christ. Which would require forgiveness and restoration. It is hard to live in this world with all its injustices…but that is the point of our faith…to let our light shine in this difficult dark world.

Please share your thoughts.
