NOVEMBER 17 READING…EZEKIEL 43-44 & ACTS 6
It becomes difficult in our readings to see in this section whether what Ezekiel is describing is the second Temple, or the Millennial Temple. Could it possibly be that like so many Old Testament prophecies there is a dual meaning? One tied to the first coming of Christ…and one to the second coming of Christ. When does the glory of God re-enter the Temple…clearly He was not there when Jesus was on the earth. How about when Messiah will enter the Easter gate? Well, Jesus did that on Palm Sunday, but He was not accepted as Messiah. There is also a day coming when He will put His foot down on the Mount of Olives and then enter that same gate. Until then that gate remains sealed off. Ezekiel speaks of a new set of instructions for the priests…clearly an addendum to the ones given through Moses. In Acts 6 we see both the continued growth of the church, and the growth of persecution against the church. It was important for the apostles to be in the Word, sharing the Gospel, and disciplining new believers. The church also had needs, more physical than spiritual…so some faithful men were set aside as deacons (the word means servant), to take care of the needs of the growing church. One of those men was Stephen, a man who walked full of faith and power of the Holy Spirit. Opposition from those who hated what the church taught, and what Stephen said and did. Stephen was seized and brought before the council…this would give him a chance testify of Jesus. We need to see everything in our life, whether hard or easy, as an opportunity to testify to Jesus.
