NOVEMBER 12 READING…1 PETER 5
Peter completes his letter by exhorting the pastors to shepherd their flock of God biblically…which would include both guiding them in the Lord and protecting them from the spiritual wolves. Pastors should serve in this way, not because they have to, but because they are privileged to…not for dishonest gain, but eagerly. They are not to be dictators, or lord over the people…but be biblical examples before the people of God. For the faithful pastor the Lord has promised a crown of glory when Jesus comes back. Peter then calls a believer to be clothed in humility…to be submissive to one another. God resists the proud, but He lifts up the humble. We are to cast all our cares on the Lord, for He genuinely cares for us and all that we are going through. Remember that we have an adversary, the devil, who prowls around like a roaring lion, seeing who he can devour. We are called to resist him in the faith, even as he is bringing suffering upon us. Peter closes by reminding us that our Lord is the God of all grace…He has called us to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus…and reminds us that after we suffer for a while here, we will enter into His presence where there is no more pain or suffering.
