MAY 31 READING…ACTS 21
Religion is a power thing in people’s lives. Mankind is innately religious. And sadly some are more committed to their religion and religious practices, than they are to the Lord. Here’s irony for you…people will kill in the name of the “Lord” for their religion those who are serving the Lord not in their religion. God never called us to be religious…and Jesus did not come to establish a religion, but a relationship with God that was broken by sin. The Jews hated Paul. They considered him a traitor to their faith, and a false teacher. They spread lies about him without ever asking him what he was teaching. Even when he tried to appease them in their ceremonial religious practices, it was not enough for them. These religious zealots had such hatred for Paul that they stirred up the people in the temple area, even those who had come there to listen to what Paul had to say. The scene was reminiscent of what the religious leaders did to Jesus. Be very wary of man’s religions…for while claiming to be from God, many are actually are against God. Find a church that teaches and preaches Jesus, not a church that just teaches religion.
