MAY 27, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

MAY 27 READING…ACTS 17

In today’s reading we have Paul making a trip to Athens. This was the place where the “thinkers” of that day gathered to celebrate their intellect, and show it off to other intellectuals. Athens was a diverse city, and was highly polytheistic. There was a gathering place there called the Areopagus, where there were memorials to every known god to these very religious people. The men would gather at the Areopagus and consider all the gods. In the midst of all these idols there was a plague to the “unknown god”. When Paul saw this he used it to tell them about the one God they didn’t know…the One, true and living God of the Bible. As he shared that God is the Creator of all, that He made all mankind from one blood, and that even in creation God was revealing Himself. Paul told them that God is the Judge of all mankind. Then Paul told them of Jesus, His sacrifice for sin, and His Resurrection. The response of these “thinkers” was much like it is today. Some scoffed, some said…”we are not ready to believe yet, we need to hear more”, and some believed. Whatever audience God puts around us, we need to be ready to share the Gospel…their response is not our business, that is between them and God…so share away!

Please share your thoughts.
