MAY 21, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

MAY 21 READING…ACTS 13

Paul begins his preaching ministry to spread the Gospel to all the world…in fulfillment of the commission from Jesus. Paul made it a practice to be in the synagogues in every community he went to. He wanted not only the Gentiles to know the Scripture…but as a Pharisee, he had a special opportunity and ability to speak to the other Jewish religious leaders as to how Jesus is the One who fulfills all the prophecies concerning the Messiah. Of course, controversy would raise its ugly head. A false prophet sorcerer named Bar-Jesus, stood against Paul and Barnabas…speaking his lies, and declaring words that were contrary to the truth of the Gospel. Paul called him a son of the devil, an enemy of righteousness, and a perverter of the way of the Lord…the sorcerer was struck blind. Those who continue to do this today reveal their own blindness. In Pisidia, Paul went to the synagogue on the Sabbath where he shares the Gospel of the Risen Lord Jesus…he also tied Jesus to the Old Testament writings of David. They were well received by the Jews and the Gentiles alike in this community. The next Sabbath Paul preached the Gospel again to the people and the Gentiles responded to the Gospel, while the Jewish leaders rejected the Gospel and stirred up opposition to Paul and Barnabas. They raised so much opposition that Paul and Barnabas were expelled from the region. Paul and Barnabas moved on under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, filled with joy for the opportunity to be able to share Christ. As we share, some will believe while others will not…we may face opposition, but we need to continue with the task of spreading the Gospel.
