MAY 17 READING…1 SAMUEL 10-12 & TITUS 1
The person of God is concerned that the leadership is both qualified and blessed of the Lord. Samuel was the prophet of God, and he was instructed to anoint, confirm, teach, and counsel Saul as the king of Israel. Samuel clearly had a heart for God, and he was concerned that Saul, as the king, would have that same heart for God. Samuel said that he would not sin against Saul as the king, and that he would continue to pray that Saul would receive Samuel’s teaching on the good and right way. Samuel knew that the only hope for Saul as king would be if he would fear the Lord, serve the Lord, and walk in the Lord’s truth with a whole heart. In Titus, Paul instructs the young pastor to be very careful in who he set aside as leadership in the church. The men who would lead the church must be blameless in the way they live and serve the Lord. They were to be men who knew and lived the Word of God…they were required to hold to, and teach sound doctrine. And Titus was required to rebuke the false teachers…to not allow these wolves to have an opportunity to teach in the church. They are dangerous, for they are not only headed to hell, they are dragging others with them.
