MAY 14 READING…1 SAMUEL 1-2 & PSALM 113
When those called to a place of service by the Lord turn evil, and enter into unrepentant sin, God will raise up someone else to do His work. God needs none of us, but through His grace He uses us in His glorious kingdom’s work. Eli was the high-priest of Israel, but he was good neither at that nor at raising his sons. His sons did evil in the sight of the Lord and disqualified themselves from moving into the place of their father as high priest. As a matter of fact, the Lord would take all three of them on the same day for their sins. There was a faithful woman named Hannah who prayed to the Lord for a son, and promised to give that son back to the Lord. The Lord heard and answered her prayer and gave her Samuel. When Samuel was old enough Hannah kept her promise and took Samuel to the high priest’s home and gave him to Eli. Very soon it became apparent that God had a special purpose for Samuel. In Psalms we are reminded of the wonderful grace of God. God loves His people and continually is at work calling His people back to Himself. By His grace He continues to do that for us today.
