MAY 1 READING…RUTH 3-4 & PROVERBS 31
Virtue is an important characteristic of those who follow the Lord. Virtue is defined as, “behavior showing high moral standards”. True virtue does not start with action, but the actions seen in the virtuous are evidence of a right heart with God. Ruth is clearly a virtuous lady. She exhibited her virtue in her relationship with both Naomi and with Boaz. This virtuous life resulted in her being married to Boaz, and the Lord providing a son for her, a placed her in the line of King David, and ultimately Jesus. You can’t fake virtue, for it always flows out of a right heart. In Proverbs 31 we are told about a virtuous wife. All of her actions toward her husband and her family reveal a right heart that produces her virtuous walk. This woman is committed to God, and to her marriage and children. These great qualities are ever under attack by our society, yet the Word of God praises these things in the women of God. This virtuous woman is praised by her husband as her genuine beauty is seen in her fear of the Lord, and in her virtue. Her children will grow up blessing their mother, and they will be thankful to God for her faith and her virtue. May we all act virtuously in the days the Lord has appointed for us.
