March 26, 2021 ~ JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE CHRONOLOGICALLY

MARCH 26 READINGS…Joshua 12:7-15:19

In today’s readings I was impressed to see faithfulness. As the land is being divided among the tribes of Israel I again see the faithfulness of Almighty God. He has not only fulfilled His promise to defeat all the kings and cities in the land they are being assigned, but God also promises to clear out the remaining land that is before them. God proved His faithfulness to His people...this faithfulness flows from the promise that the Lord gave to Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. Hebrews 6:17-18 says...”Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.” When God makes a promise, He is ALWAYS faithful in fulfilling His promise. Man makes commitments and promises and seems to have no trouble breaking them...not so with God, if He says it, it will happen. He was faithful to Israel in bringing them into the land...and He is faithful to us as we live in this time.

The second picture of faithfulness I see is the faithfulness of a man...and though that can never match the faithfulness of God, it is still important. We are reminded of a man named Caleb, and his faithfulness to follow and believe God. He and Joshua are the only two who made it through the wilderness wandering and enter the land of promise who were older than twenty years at the time of Israel’s disobedience concerning entering the land originally. God made a promise to Joshua and Caleb for their faithfulness. In our readings we see that God rewarded Caleb for his faithfulness in giving him the choice of land from the tribe of Judah. Caleb, true to his character chooses Hebron, a place where he would need to run out the descendants of Anak. Caleb the faithful warrior of God. This passage shows us the need for our own faithfulness...God rewards faithfulness in His people. We like Caleb ought not to look at the obstacles in our lives...but we ought to be looking to our God who is greater than any obstacle we will ever face. Our God who is faithful...our God who has called us to faithfulness.

Share your thoughts from today’s readings. Think of ways that God has shown His faithfulness in your life. Also look at your own walk, is it a walk of faithfulness toward God and others?
