MARCH 2 READING…LEVITICUS 26-27 & 1 JOHN 5
Today’s theme is that God wants us to know. In Leviticus He wanted His people to know what was required for obedience…starting with the command to refrain from making idols. He wanted them to know what would happen to them, and for them, if they would walk in obedience to the Lord’s requirements. He also wanted them to know what would happen to them if they chose to walk in disobedience. The Lord then wanted them to know what was required should they fall away, and then desire to come back to the Lord. As Leviticus closes the Lord wanted His people to know that they, their animals, their houses, and their fields all were to be consecrated unto the Lord. His final instructions were concerning the firstborn of their animals, offerings, and tithes unto the Lord.
Chapter 5 of 1 John closes this book, and reveals to us that the Lord wants us to know we have salvation. John tells us that this whole book was for the purpose of those who are the children of God to know that they are the children of God. He reminds us that it is through Jesus only that salvation is received. He wants us to know that in Christ we have victory over this sin fallen world. Finally, he wants us to know that we can have the assurance of our salvation. When the Lord saves us, He saves us eternally. We are to have confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ who has guaranteed our eternal salvation…and no one, or nothing, can change that eternal fact!
