MARCH 4 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: JOHN 16:5-15

It was the Holy Spirit that brought to you the truth of who Christ is and what He has done for you. No one discovers God. No one comes to Jesus because they figured out the mystery of the gospel. No one is spiritual enough on their own to trust in Jesus for their eternal salvation. By His grace God called each of us to Himself. By His grace, the Holy Spirit reveals in our hearts that we are sinners...that we need a Savior...that Jesus is that Savior. By His grace, and the faith He gives us, we are able to put our trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. What a great work the Holy Spirit has done and is doing in the lives of people everywhere, so that they might know Jesus is Savior! How is God known? He is known by the revelation of the Holy Spirit into the life of an individual. Every concept of God that man comes up with on his own is pathetically lacking in comparison to the one true and living God.

Why do we come to God? It is because of the grace of God that is shown in His great love for us. None of us are smart enough, spiritual enough, or wise enough, to figure out that we need God. He graciously calls us to Himself by His Holy Spirit, or we would not come, we could not come. What must we do to come to God in salvation? Paul told the jailer in Philippi to, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” It is the Holy Spirit who brings us the revelation of God, because of God’s grace and love. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our sin and need for a Savior. It is the Holy Spirit who convinces us that Jesus is the Savior. It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to believe. Without Him it is impossible to know salvation. What is wonderful is that He is at work every day, everywhere, doing what He does in bringing people to salvation. His call to all today is too..."Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved."
