MARCH 1 READING…LEVITICUS 24-25 & 1 JOHN 4
As we read today’s writing we see the importance of making sure that things come from God, and not just from the religious minds of mankind. When we follow the plan and ways of God, the results will be the way of God. The Lord instructed Moses concerning the way the tabernacle is set up, and how the things in the tabernacle are to be handled. The people were warned about the holiness of the very Name of God, and the misuse of God’s holy Name. The Lord also gave to the people the Sabbath year and the year of Jubilee. Both of these are given by God for the benefit of His people. He did this because He loved them, and wanted their lives to be fully blessed. These were given for the benefit of the individual and the nation alike.
In 1 John we are reminded to be careful not to believe every spirit, nor the voice of the false teachers and prophets who speak being led by these ungodly spirits. The spirits and these “teachers” are contrary to God in everything they speak…though they have become adept at sounding legitimate. The basic truth they deny is the biblical truth about Jesus. Remember if they get that wrong, it does not matter what else they get “right”. John then reminds us to love one another. We are to do this because God is love. God loves us perfectly…and though we cannot love perfectly, we are to submit to the Holy Spirit who can love through us the way we are called to love. We must be responsive to the Holy Spirit to obey this command to love. The ultimate proof that we actually love God is that we will love one another.
