JUNE 8 READING…1 KINGS 2-3 & 1 CORINTHIANS 5
David is about to die, so he calls Solomon in to speak to him. David instructs Solomon to deal with David’s enemies. When David does die, Solomon carries out his father’s instructions. The enemies of David are dealt with, most by the sword. Solomon also deals with those who were kind to David, by rewarding them. Solomon asked that he might have wisdom as king, and God granted him his wish. Solomon showed great wisdom in dealing with two women who claimed the same baby, and he dealt with Israel with this great wisdom, at least in the beginning of his kingship. In 1 Corinthians, Paul warns the church about sexual immorality, and that it must be dealt with, or the church becomes defiled. So many churches are defiled today for they condone cohabitation, adulterous relationships, homosexuality, and other forms of immorality. Paul said that we are not even to keep company with these sexually immoral people in the church. Of course we are to be reaching out to all people outside the church. But the Scriptures point is that if the church allows the immoral, who claim to be Christians, to remain in the church, then the church itself sins, by condoning what God has condemned.
