JUNE 6 READING…ACTS 25
Paul continues to have to stand trial before the authorities. Festus who is now the head of the province came to Caesarea and wanted to hear from Paul. Festus, again under pressure from the Jewish religious authorities asked Paul if he was willing to return to Jerusalem to face the Jews in their own court. Paul said that he had done nothing to violate Jewish law and that if he was going to be tried, he as a Roman citizen, would appeal to Caesar. This act by Paul sealed his fate in that he would be sent to Rome…and it also revealed that he trusted the secular system of justice more than the corrupt religious system. After a few days King Agrippa came to Caesarea because he wanted to hear Paul. This would be the last time for Paul to share directly with a Jewish leader the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Festus remains perplexed as he cannot come up with any charge against Paul, especially one worthy of death. Paul was guilty though…he was guilty of being a follower of Jesus and guilty of sharing the Gospel to all people. I pray to God that as people look at my life what they find me guilty of is being a follower of Jesus, and a believer in and sharing the Gospel and God’s truth. I pray that not only for me…but also for each of you.
Please share your thoughts.
