JUNE 4 READING…2 SAMUEL 20-21 & 1 CORINTHIANS 1
Sadly, divisions will come…keep your eyes on the Lord! David had to face opposition, and even division in his own household, all of his time as king. It should not surprise us that there would be opposition, but it is surprising where it comes from. We expect opposition from the world, or those who consider themselves our enemies. It is surprising when that opposition comes from family, or from inside the church. Divisions come when people seek their own way, rather than seeking the Lord and His way. The opposition in David’s life led to war from outside nations, and continued conflict from inside his own nation. In 1 Corinthians Paul dealt with divisions in the church. These divisions are caused by schisms in the church body, where people seek which personality they desire to follow. Paul told the Corinthian church that the only one that they should be following is Jesus. What a wonder place the church would be if every person would follow Jesus with their whole heart. The mission of the church would get done if this was the case.
