JUNE 16 READING…1 KINGS 14-15 & 1 CORINTHIANS 13
Both Jeroboam and Rehoboam led the people into idolatry, and allowed practices of sexual perversion to rule in the land. When Jeroboam died his evil son, Nadab ruled in Israel. Though Jeroboam was buried, he would not remain so, according to the prophet, because of his evil. Rehoboam died and his son, Abijam became king, he was evil, and he led Judah in war against Israel…he reigned two years and died. Abijam was replaced by Asa, who was a good king with a heart after God. Asa got rid of the places of idol worship, and stopped the perverted sexaul practices that were an abomination to the Lord. We can see the results of sin as the nation of Israel is divided, and has little to no stability of godly leadership. In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul reminds us that the greatest of all things is love…biblical love, not the adulterated love expressed by this world. Love is not a feeling…love is an action, based on truth and godliness. It’s honest, and genuinely cares about others. Love acts for the best interests of others, and is kind and patient. Love does not cover up evil, nor does it act in a ungodly manner. Love is not based on sensuality…nor is it found in perversion. Love is not carnal, but found in a right relationship with God and others. When everything else is gone…God’s type of love is all that will remain.
