JUNE 14 READING…1 KINGS 11 & 1 CORINTHIANS 11
Solomon was given so much, and as such much was required of him. He was given peace with his neighboring countries…including Egypt, Moab, Ammon, Edom…even the Siddons and Hittites, who God said not to intermarry with because of their idolatry. But Solomon as wise as he was, disobeyed God’s clear command, and married many of these women. These women brought in their false gods, and Solomon’s heart was turned from God. The Lord told Solomon that because he had broken the covenant, his kingdom would be taken away and given to a servant. Jeroboam was God’s instrument of judgment. Solomon died a miserable old man, with all the wisdom in the world, but with a broken relationship with God. In 1 Corinthians, Paul deals with a church in rebellion against God. The women are rejecting God’s creative order and rebelling against the headship of their husbands and the male leadership in the church. The churches conduct is so grievous that Paul tells them it would have been better for them not even to meet. The have adulterated the Lord’s Supper to the point that because some have taken it in an unworthy manner they are sick, and some have even died. Imagine God judging His church in such a way. We live in a day of rebellion against God’s clearly defined order in the home and in His church. The church is not free to do anything it wants…the church has one Head, it is Jesus’ church, and we are required to do what He commands.
