JUNE 1 READING…2 SAMUEL 15-16 & PSALM 3 & 70-71
Pride has many faces. It expresses itself in so many different ways. Rebellion is the result of pride. Seeking positions and power are the result of pride. Certainly, getting our own way is based in pride. Rejecting the authority of God in one’s life comes from a heart filled with pride. It started in heaven, with Satan…it moved to Eden, with Adam and Eve wanting to be like God…it continues in our time with the perverted desiring not only acceptance and tolerance but required agreement and celebration. Absalom was filled with pride. This led to him rebel against David, and even taking David’s throne for a period of time. Absalom’s pride blinded him to bad counsel, so he went into his father’s concubine. His pride moved him to seek his father’s death…because of his unbridled pride, the royal family had to be moved to a safe place. In the Psalms David cries out to God for protection from those who were out to destroy him…even his own son. David declared that he put his trust in the Lord to take care of him, even in this time of rebellion. We live in a world filled with rebellion…people are filled with pride, and stand against everything that is godly…as they stand against God Himself. We, like David, need to put our trust in the Lord in these days. He will sustain us, protect us, and empower us to stand in His Name and His Word.
