JULY 7 READING…2 KINGS 20-22 & PSALM 82
It does not matter how kind, and how welcoming a person is…they still need the wisdom of the Lord. Jesus said, “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”- Matthew 10:16. Hezekiah was a good king, he stood in faith against the assault of Sennacherib, and when he became sick God heard his prayers and gave him 15 more years. But, when the envoys from Babylon came to visit, Hezekiah foolishly showed them the entire arsenal of Judah. Isaiah told Hezekiah that because of his foolishness this same nation will take Judah captive, but not in his lifetime. Hezekiah dies, and Manasseh restored idol worship in Judah…then Amon continued as king, and did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. After Amon the last good king, Josiah, reigns in Judah. The Psalmist reminds us that the Lord is Judge, and the whole earth belongs to Him. We are called to walk in the wisdom of the Lord…we are to be harmless and kind…but we are not to be foolish. For our foolishness not only impacts us, but others.
