JULY 30 READING…2 CORINTHIANS 3
Paul reminds the church at Corinth that their new life in Christ is what this letter is all about. They have life in the Spirit of God, and now are people of the New Covenant in Christ Jesus. This is in stark contrast to those who remain under the law. The law cannot save…it does not now, nor has it ever saved anyone. The law is a “mirror” that reveals what we are actually like. When we look into the “mirror” of the law we are always found guilty…the law reveals our guilt. When we look at the cross, where the only man who ever lived that the law declared Him sinless died in our place, we find the grace of God unto salvation. It’s not that we are no longer guilty, but we are now pardoned by Jesus’ substitutionary death. Who gets, or needs, a pardon…not the innocent, but the guilty. We are guilty, but God has pardoned us because the debt of our sin was paid in full by Jesus. The Holy Spirit lives with we believers to guarantee our eternal salvation through Jesus
