JULY 3 READING…2 KINGS 16 & PSALM 88 & MARK 14
Compromise to the Lord’s truth always leads to the destruction of a person, and even a people. In 2 Kings, Ahaz enters into compromise with the king of Syria…he did this in disobedience to the Lord. He compromised, and did evil in the sight of the Lord…he even attempted to payoff the king of Syria. His compromise led to more compromise, until he basically sold himself and Judah to Syria. In Psalms, the writer calls out to God as to why the Lord seems so far away from him. There is an important truth we must understand…if God seems far from us, it is never because God has moved. If we compromise with Satan, or the enemies of God…it will always lead to us moving away from the Lord. And anytime we move away from God, we are bringing trouble upon ourselves and others. In Mark, Judas compromises his allegiance to Jesus, by meeting with the religious leaders…and ultimately betraying Jesus. This led to Jesus’ crucifixion…and it led to Judas’ destruction. Even Peter, who boldly declared he would never compromise his faith, does so in denying Jesus three times. Fear will cause us to do things that are contrary to what the Lord has called us to. And though we don’t always think of it this way…fear itself is a compromise. It is a compromise of our faith in God. In faith we walk strong in the Lord…in fear we walk in the way of the world. Walk in faith my brothers and sisters…don’t give into fear, it will only lead to compromise.
