JULY 25 READING…1 CHRONICLES 11 & LUKE 13
Our reading in 1 Chronicles today begins the kingship of David. How God gave David the city of Jerusalem. It also speaks of David’s mighty men…through all that David went through, God never left him alone. God provided for David faithful and strong men to walk with him through both the tough times and through the victories. They took the fortified city of Jerusalem from the Jebusites, and made it the city of David. Interesting as we read in Luke 13 we see Jesus weeping over this city about 2000 years after David made it his city. This is the city of the great King…who would reject it’s King. It was in this city that God would have David’s son build His Temple. But it would be a city filled with idolatry and every kind of vile thing…rather than be a city that worship and followed God. That is why we have Jesus weeping over this rebellious city. Seems like so many things that have been dedicated to God, quickly move away from Him and go the way of this world. Our great nation would be an example of this. Marriages, too often, follow this pattern…along with families. Even churches, and denominations that once were dedicated to God and His Word have gone the way of the world. And even Christian individuals have gotten so caught up in the world that they have walked away from the Lord. We must keep our eyes solely on Jesus, we must stay in His Word, and we must live surrendered to the Holy Spirit…that we would stay the course all the days of our lives. May God keep each of us, as we stay only in Him, and reject the way of this world.
