JULY 23 READING…1 CHRONICLES 9 & LUKE 11
1 Chronicles 9 list for us the genealogy of the tribes that returned after the captivity of Judah in Babylon. Notice not all tribes returned, nor are they recorded in this book. This may account for the misnomer, “the lost tribes of Israel”. The Lord knows where His people are…and the Scripture makes it clear in the book of Revelation that He will one day restore them. This chapter then goes back and deals with the genealogy of Saul, the first king of Israel…as the writer begins to chronicle for us the kings of Israel and Judah. In Luke 11, Jesus gives us a pattern for prayer. He continues to teach and casts out demons. When people continue to demand that Jesus prove His identity by performing more signs and miracles…He tells them that the only sign that will be given that proves who He is, is the sign of Jonah…His Resurrection. Jesus then confronts both the Pharisees and the lawyers, because of their hypocrisy and holding truth from the people of God. The Lord knows. He knew the hearts of the religious leaders 2000 years ago and He knows our hearts today. It is incumbent upon us not to be like the Pharisees…but to love the Lord with a pure and sincere heart.
