JULY 22 READING…1 CHRONICLES 8 & LUKE 10
In Chronicles we have the line of Benjamin that leads to, and through, Saul. The significance of this is that Saul was the first king of Israel. This book and the next chronicle the lives of these kings. Saul was the only king from his line…after his sin, his family lost the privilege to sit on the throne of Israel. There is always a cost to sin…we never sin with impunity. I am so grateful that Jesus paid the eternal price for sin. But we must remember that if even we believers choose to sin, we will bring the consequences of that sin on ourselves and others. In Luke, Jesus sends out seventy to share the message of the kingdom and minister to the people. They come back rejoicing that even the demons were subject to them…but Jesus reminded them of the most important thing, that their names were written in heaven. He gives the parable of the Good Samaritan to remind us of who our neighbors are. Then he visits Mary and Martha, where Martha is so busy that she doesn’t have time to sit and listen to Jesus. She becomes upset at Mary for sitting and listening…but Jesus tells her Mary has chosen rightly. We, at times, are so busy doing for the Lord that we have no time for the Lord. We need to realize, just as Martha needed to realize, that more than our works, Jesus wants us...as we spend time with Him the works will come in their proper order and time.
