JULY 12 READING…ECCLESIASTES 9-12 & MALACHI 1-2
In our reading in Ecclesiastes, Solomon comes to several conclusions about life and death…and all of them involve wisdom. Wisdom and knowledge are two different things…there are many unwise individuals who have knowledge. I would describe wisdom as the proper and biblical application of knowledge. Solomon reminds us of the fact that the time will come when judgment comes to all people…to the righteous and the wicked alike, to the rich and poor, and to those with power along with the powerless. Wisdom comes from the Lord, and it is what helps us to live this life the way God created us to live it. When a people have leadership without wisdom, that people are doomed. We see that in our own country, and in many of our churches. People with degrees (knowledge), but they lack the wisdom to properly use the knowledge they have. Business are destroyed, along with the economies they support, because of a lack of wisdom. We are called to remember what it was like when we came to God…how excited we were to know Him, and we did not know any better than to trust Him. That is wisdom, when we implicitly trust God in all things. Solomon concludes his treatise with the statement that we are to fear God and obey Him…for one day we will all stand before Him in judgment.
