JULY 1 READING…2 KINGS 13-14 & MARK 12
Wicked leadership destroys a nation, a church, and even affects future generations. We see in 2 Kings the impact of wicked leadership in total rebellion against God…and in those kings who did some right, but were not totally obedient to the Lord. I was asked one time what success looked like in the life of a Christian? My answer was obedience. We are not in control of the outcome…we are only able to be obedient or disobedient. Jesus said if we truly loved Him, we would do as He says…obedience. These wicked kings lived in disobedience to the Lord…and this ultimately destroyed both Israel and Judah. In Mark we see the disobedience in the lives of the religious leaders…the Pharisees, Sadducees, and the Scribes. Jesus used an parable in which He called them wicked Vinedressers, who beat messengers of the owner of the vineyard, and ultimately killed his son. Jesus then warned His followers to stay away from the hypocrisy of the Pharisees…to reject the ignorance of the Sadducees…and to not become involved in the narcissism of the Scribes. These religious leaders were the cause of the destruction of Israel. In their disobedience they did the same thing as the wicked kings in the Old Testament. Stay obedient to God my brothers and sisters…it’s the only path to success in this life that leads to life eternal.
