JANUARY 6 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: PSALM 4
Let's be honest, we've all been there, are there, or are going to be there. Where is there? In the place where the issues of life, commitments, obligations, relationships, responsibilities, troubles, schedules, etc., have us in a fog. We are so overtaken by these things that we can't see clearly. Sometimes life just happens...things build up...and it seems like we can't catch up to ourselves, so we feel like we are walking around in the fog. This is a terrible place for us to be...it can steal our joy...send us into depression...it can cause us to just shut down and, in some cases, give up. In this state, we can be surrounded by many people, but still feel all alone. Others may tell us to get over it, snap out of it and we ourselves would like nothing better...but we can't. When things are clouded up in our lives it is hard to see any hope.
The Scripture says that Jesus is the "Light of the World." He is there to give us light when the fog rolls in...He makes it so we can see in the midst of all the clouds of life...He gives warmth when we are dealing with this cold world. The Lord makes all the difference when life happens. When we are being drug down into the darkness, He is our light that pushes the darkness away. The Psalmist reminds us that we don't have to walk in a fog, that God has provided..."Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." The Lord has called us to a walk of faith...that is a walk in the light. In the midst of all the circumstances and situations of life that can and do overwhelm us...the Lord has provided a light to push away the fog and give clarity. He does not always take us out of the situation...He does not always fix the situation...but He is always there providing His light in the midst of the darkness of the fog. As life happens, we need to be in Christ who is the light of our life...who is the light of the world.
