JANUARY 5 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 13:5-6
How real is Jesus to you? If we are not careful He becomes a symbol or almost a mythological character. The worst thing that could happen to us is to lose the sense of the reality of Christ in our lives as the real person that He is. When we know of the reality of Jesus, then we can know the promise that He is all sufficient. To really be able to walk and live knowing that in Him we have all we need...and that having Him makes everything else in our lives what it should be. In Christ, our existence finds meaning...in Christ, our relationships are made full...in Christ, our lives are made complete.
It seems like a simple concept...trust Christ to be everything in your life...but it is the hardest thing for us to do. We want Jesus, but we want so many other things too. So, we add Jesus to our list of things that we think will bring us a full life. We need to see that our lives need to be in Christ, then all these other things are put in their proper place and perspective. For we who are Christian, it is never Christ plus anything...it is just Christ. In Him we are made complete...He is our all sufficient Savior, not only for a moment, but for eternity. He tells us not to worry, but have faith...He tells us to trust God to provide...He tells us to rest in Him. If we would but see Jesus for who He is, trust Him completely, rely on Him to be our provision as we walk in this world...we would see and experience the fullness of the life promised to us!
