JANUARY 31 READING…MATTHEW 23
Are you genuine? Are you a real, biblical, follower of Jesus? Or are you merely a religious individual? Is your religion more important to you than the Lord? Are you willing to follow God before anything else? Have you truly given your life to the Lord? Jesus knows. We might fool others concerning our relationship with the Lord…but we cannot fool the Lord. The Lord knew what the Pharisees were up to, and He knew their motivation. He knew their hearts, and He knows our hearts. The Pharisees were concerned about outward appearance, while the Lord was concerned with the heart. Our relationship with God is not made right with through our actions…our actions are made right by our relationship with the Lord. The Pharisees hearts were not right with God, so rather than receive praise from Jesus the Messiah, they received condemnation. Some would say, “Who cares…who’s Jesus”? Jesus is the last and final Judge of all mankind. We better care what He sees when He looks at us. We better care that our hearts and lives are right with Him. What Jesus sees when He looks at us is what it is. He judges righteously…He judges understanding all things clearly…He judges justly. Matthew reminds us that He doesn’t do this from an uncaring, detached, perspective…but His heart is literally broken at our hypocrisy, our unbelief, and our disobedient lives.
