JANUARY 29, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

JANUARY 29 READING…MATTHEW 21

If you are going to follow the Lord faithfully you can expect the cheers to turn to jeers. I am not trying to be a skeptic, or trying to discourage anyone. But, the reality is that this world, and even the religious, are very fickle…and if popularity is your aim, you cannot be a genuine follower of Jesus. The only ones that will understand you, and walk beside you, are other genuine followers of Jesus. Jesus came into Jerusalem and the crowd cheered Him, and declared that their Messiah had finally arrived. It was a celebration… they cheered Him. But, when He began to both demonstrate and teach what it really means to live in the kingdom of God, they turned on Him very quickly…the jeers started. He disturbed their corrupted religious practices by cleansing them Temple. You see they didn’t mind Him being Messiah, as long as they could continue to do what they wanted. Seems like nothing changes…today many professing Christians don’t mind Jesus being “Lord” as long as they don’t have to change the ungodly lives. The religious leaders in Jesus’ time did not like Him speaking or acting with authority in their lives…so they use ad hominem arguments to question His authority…never even considering the validity of what He said and did. The Lord does not exist to do our bidding…we are not in control, He is. But too many approach God as if they are in control, not understanding that whoever is in control is god of the situation.

Please share your thoughts.
